Teeth Whitening

Whitening before and after. For many people, yellowing teeth is an unavoidable issue. There are many things that you should know before making assumptions about tooth whitening, and bear in mind that many of the things you have heard may not be the most accurate. Rumors on the subject run rampant. We can answer any questions you can have about tooth whitening, just give us a call today!

What Causes Stained Teeth?

Stained and discolored teeth can stem from many different aspects of life. Often, and the most preventable reason for tooth discoloration, it is caused by consuming acidic or darkly pigmented foods or beverages. The food particles stick to the enamel of your teeth and over time, are absorbed by the teeth. This staining can also come from tobacco, chewing or smoking. Discolored teeth can also come from problems deeper within the tooth. Tooth injury and fluorosis (along with certain medications) can cause stains that originate inside the tooth and spread outward. While proper brushing and flossing can help with stains from food, these kinds of stains are unaffected by toothpaste or rinses.

Is it Safe?

Whitening at home. While we do not recommend it for expecting mothers, that is more of a precaution than anything else. You may experience slight sensitivity after the procedure, but it is a temporary issue and will pass. Tooth whitening is not dangerous to your health and well-being whatsoever.

Teeth Whitening Made for You

Teeth whitening agents actually change the color of your teeth, but only are effective on certain types of stains. For example, bleaching agents have a difficult time removing brownish or grayish stains. These products also are not as effective on pitted or badly discolored teeth, or on restorations such as crowns, bridges, bonding and tooth-colored fillings (porcelain veneers or dental bonding may be more appropriate in this case).

Embree Dentistry offers a menu of whitening options and protocols to meet the individual needs of the patient. We offer ZERO SENSITIVITY WHITENING for our patients with sensitive teeth .
